New Year Resolutions
By Katerina Fager
As the New Year is approaching, so are our new goals, new wishes, new dreams and new resolutions. Today, you can close the door to the past and open the door to the future. For some, it is not easy to do. Many reasons can hold you back and you might feel scared to do it, but this is the perfect opportunity to reflect back on your year. You can look closer at your accomplishments, review your challenges, outcomes and come up with new goals. Take a deep breath, step on through and start this new chapter of your life.
If you have a difficult time sticking to your new goals, come up with simple, small, easy achievable goals. Remember baby steps can go a long way. Sometimes we create resolutions which are very hard to achieve and they fall through. Be smart and realistic. You know yourself and your limits. Your goal should be relevant to you and matter only to you. Plan it well and reward yourself along the way. Write your goals down and remind yourself of them everyday by reading them. Remember that big goals will not change right away and they are long term projects which need time and perhaps changes in your habits. Be patient and persistent. When you start experiencing anxiety, try to meditate which will calm down your mind. Tell a friend or relative about your goals and promise each other to support each other along the way. It is always better to have someone who you can talk to when you feel it’s not going in the right direction and who can be supportive of you. If you don’t have anyone to talk to and to support you and feel down, try to write down everything what went right for you and anything fortunate that happened that day for you. Try to always stay positive and let go of any negativity.
If you are in a relationship, you can come up with new year resolutions together with your partner. Making resolutions with your partner can help you stick to your promises and can enhance your relationship. You can support each other along the way and remind each other of your goals. Come up with resolutions specific to your relationship. Goals such as trying to be more mindful and spend more time with each other, or argue less and apologize more can also be a good start. Come up with some new hobbies together and try to stick to them. There are so many things you can come up with for your relationship. The most important resolutions for any relationship are to listen to each other more, spend more time with each other and turn off your phones! Be more affectionate and make intimacy a priority. Whatever you will come up with it should be meaningful to your relationship and to your partner.
Cheers and Happy New Year!
